NEW MEDIA2

Creativity + Innovativeness + Modernity

The expression new media, commonly known to everyone, has been used both in the literature on the subject, in research by scientists and in practical use for several decades. It appeared for the first time in the 1960s. Since then, the dynamic technological progress, the process of globalization and the convergence of the media have contributed to the search by scientists of a new language to define media that are built on the basis of Internet access. Paul Levinson, already over 10 years ago began to use the term “new media” to describe the media reality that surrounds us.

Looking closely at the media past, we can clearly see that public opinion was once created by the chosen ones who were able to characterize the media message with their own views and convey it to a society that is so hungry for information. The process of popularizing the Internet, and above all the increase in awareness of the masses of people about its power, has made it the foundation of the functioning of the information society today.

We cannot remain indifferent to such an important issue. Especially that in this area we see not only positive aspects of using new media in practice; but we also see very clearly that they can generate anxiety and even painfully hurt another person, and even become a tool for carrying out criminal and disinformation activities.

At the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń, each year, together with scientists, lecturers, practitioners and students, we consider the functioning of new media.

In 2022, we want to pay special attention to the practical application of this type of media in various areas of our everyday life – from information transfer, through financial, medical, publishing and IT services, across politics, to art and culture. By indicating so broadly the areas that we want to deal with, we clearly and unquestionably see the enormous potential that this type of media has for our daily life and the choices we make.

We encourage the entire academic community to unite in this discussion and take part in the conference proposed by us.

Let our creative view on the issue of new media lead us to innovative ideas, and these to the implementation of modern solutions!

Deadline for registering active participation in the conference: 30.04.2022
