From October 31, 2021 to November 4, 2021, the Catalonia Days took place within the walls of the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń. It was the second edition of this event. The first took place in February 2019. The entire event took place under the sanitary regime.
The event was possible thanks to the deep and fruitful cooperation of the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń, the Regional Center for International Debate in Toruń and the Polish School in Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Castelldefels. Everything was possible thanks to the international, European Erasmus + program.
Guests were welcomed by the Dean of AKSiM, Dr. Dorota Żuchowska and the Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Intercollegiate and International Affairs, as well as the Erasmus + Program Coordinator, Dr. Krystian Chołaszczyński, and the coordinator of the Regional Center for International Debate in Toruń, Dr. Jan Wiśniewski. On the part of the arriving institution, the leader of the group was the Director of the Polish Schools, Ewa Hojna.

Ewa Hojna – teacher and headmistress at the Polish School in Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Castelldefels (Associació Cultural Escuela Polaca) and a guide and resident for various Polish and Spanish travel agencies (Net Holiday, Itaka, Serhs Tourism, Agrupatur Viajes Duero)
Jordi Gomà Cortès – Principal Professor and Teacher of Undergraduate English, Classical Culture and History in English. works at the La Salle School (in Tarragona). Head of the Department, Designer of the Foreign Language Improvement Plan, Director at the diploma level at La Salle High School, Cambridge Exams Coordinator, Language Exchange Coordinator, English language tutor for graduate students applying for secondary school teachers.
José Manuel Rodríguez Moreno – in education, he has an official Master’s degree in Education and ICT (e-learning) from the Catalan Open University (UOC). In addition, he is a technical engineer in computer systems at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). He also has a college degree from Pawnee City High School, Nebraska (USA). Currently he works as DEFENSATF – the person responsible for the diploma thesis of a virtual university student and for the defense management system in the education sector. Has the role of a software architect in an environment with AWS, Docker, Spring Boot, Angular and Python.
Experts from the Polish School presented lectures and workshops. First, Director Ewa Hojna presented the basic elements of Catalan culture. She especially emphasized those traditions that are not obvious from the Polish perspective. Then José Manuel Rodríguez Moreno in his presentation focused on the beauty of Catalonia and showed the possibilities of discovering different corners of this beautiful land. The audience was extremely interested in the question of the four-part name and surname of the leader. This explained the complicated issue of taking surnames from parents in Spain. Whereas prof. Jordi Gomà Cortès explained the idea of the Human Towers – the intangible Catalan heritage inscribed on the UNESCO list – and the philosophy behind it.
The participants of the event were students of the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń. As part of the Days, guests from Catalonia offered local delicacies, which made the whole event pleasant.
After the lecture and workshop part, guests were invited to a gala dinner.
All participants were delighted with the lectures and workshops held as part of the Catalonia Days and have already started to devise a plan for the next edition of this cultural and linguistic experience, in just a year.
